Montgomery County Peace and Justice Network: This is the new group. founded by the ministers associated with Interfaith here in The Woodlands. This is the group that brought Ann Wright and Cindy Sheehan to The Woodlands. They seek to work locally to help alleviate poverty, increase access to healthcare, cultivate peace and justice, protect our youth and advocate for seniors. There is a Peace Vigil every Sunday evening on the bridge over the lake on Lake Woodlands Pkwy. It starts around sunset, and lasts for one hour. Candles are provided, or you can bring your own.

Lone Star Democratic Club: This local group is very similar to ours. They have informative programs, and often screen documentaries. Until recently, they met in a meeting room up at Montgomery College. Now they meet in the same room we do at the library. Their meetings are on 1st Thursdays, and there are dues. Unlike our group, there are other project besides the meetings.

Democrats & Progressives of Montgomery County Area: This group meets in Conroe, monthly I think. They are Democrats and Progressives of Montgomery County and the surronding area. Their intention is to unite together to put Democrats and Progressives in local, state and national office. UNITE TO TAKE BACK AMERICA!

Amnesty International USA Group 516: This is the local chapter of the worldwide human rights organization. They have for a long time (before Bush) been opposed to specific human rights violations such as torture and unlawful inprisonment. The focus is on "Prisoners of Conscience" - people who are oppressed because of their religious or political beliefs or because of their ethnicity. They meet on the third Wednesday of the month (except July) from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church

The Woodlands Green: This is a a non-profit organization located here in The Woodlands. They are committed to educating the community about natural resource conservation, recycling, reduction of solid waste, and responsible actions that protect the environment and its inhabitants.

Millbend Coffeehouse: Hosts live acoustic music in the Woodlands at least once per month since 1992.

Montgomery County Libertarian Party: Meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Community Center (next door to the Library).

Harris County Green Party: Meets on 3rd Mondays at Central Market on the southwest corner of Westheimer and Weslayan. There is always a program.

Houston Peak Oil Progressives: The mission of Houston Peak Oil Progressives is to connect citizens concerned about rising energy prices so they can learn together and help Houston respond wisely to the challenges possible in the near future. Their next event is a Conference on Sunday, August 13, 2006 from 1 to 5:30pm at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 5200 Fannin at Southmore in the Museum District of Houston.

Citizens League for Environmental Action Now: This group provides Houstonians with scientific evidence on the health effects of air pollution. They offer solutions to improve Houston's air quality that will benefit Houston socially and economically. They encourage the public to speak out on these issues.

Houston Progressive: A Webzine for writers, artists and poets. This page has many links to organizations and activities throughout the Houston area.

Houston IndyMedia: An all-volunteer collective of reporters posting local news.

The New Capital Show: The New Capital Show (TM) is progressive talk radio hosted by Leo Gold and airs/webstreams Thursdays at 10am CST on KPFT 90.1 Houston, a Pacifica radio station. NCS covers politics, environment, economics, commerce, science, religion, and philosophy.

Houston International Festival: The theme for this year's Ifest is China. This is a major street festival held in downtown Houston every April accross two weekends. There is lots of live music.
